The extra 2 I guess are just for the range. But I’ve seen tabs of Pink Floyd’s “Money” before and I know in the solo there there’s a 24 on B so you could either use a 24 fret guitar for that or you could use 19 on E if you needed to.
But with my own 24 fret guitar it’s shaped like a Strat so there’s not really anything there to get in your way, it’s not like an acoustic guitar.

The Extra 2 are so that you have exactly 2 octaves on each string, and if it’s too hard to get to them on your guitar then flip your hand palm down if you need to.

I used to have one and yes you can reach them and play them effectively although it took me two days to get used to it. But the real question is “are you REALLY going to be using those extra two frets?”

I have a couple of guitars with 24 frets. They are all cutaways so it’s not hard to reach them. I don’t really go up that high ever.. but if I need to, I know they are there lol.
